UAE Accelerates Post-Quantum Cybersecurity Efforts with QuantumGate Partnership

3 min
The UAE is intensifying its focus on cybersecurity by partnering with QuantumGate for quantum-safe technologies.
Three national programmes aim to enhance security, track readiness, and prioritise cryptographic system upgrades.
The UAE's strategy emphasises proactive, nationwide implementation instead of just planning, leading the region in post-quantum defence.
QuantumGate will deploy tools like the Crypto Discovery Tool, boosting national resilience.
This initiative strengthens the UAEās regional leadership in cybersecurity, inspiring innovation among startups.
The UAE has been pushing hard on cybersecurity for years, but at CyberQ 2025 in Abu Dhabi this week, it felt as though the country stepped into a new chapter entirely. The Cybersecurity Council revealed that itās expanding its collaboration with QuantumGate, the ATRC-backed firm working on quantumāsafe technologies. And honestly, for anyone watching the race toward postāquantum security, this move was spot on.
What struck me reading through the announcements was how the UAE is no longer just sketching out long-term plans; itās shifting into full-on implementation. Thatās a big leap. Many countries are still debating roadmaps while the UAE is already laying cables, so to speak. And believe it or not, that puts it among the first nations taking coordinated, nationwide action on postāquantum defenceāsomething that could easily become a bit of a faff if left too late.
The new phase focuses on three national programmes: the National Information Assurance Program, the National Cybersecurity Index Platform, and the National PostāQuantum Migration Program. Together, theyāre essentially the UAEās toolkit for tightening baseline security, tracking national readiness, and helping organisations identify which cryptographic systems will need to move first. I reckon any entity sitting on long-term sensitive dataābanks, energy operators, even healthcare groupsāwill be paying close attention.
One detail that caught my eye was the push to introduce early migration roadmaps. At Arageek, weāve often seen startups struggle with security upgrades simply because they donāt know where to begin. Having clear baselines and sectorāwide guidance can save companies a lot of headaches⦠well, I mean, assuming they actually follow the guidance.
His Excellency Dr. Mohamed AlāKuwaiti summed up the strategy rather sharply, saying the goal is to āanticipate, not reactā, stressing that the UAE is building quantumāsafe defences now rather than waiting for quantum decryption to become a real-world threat. On the flip side, QuantumGateās CEO Dr. Najwa Aaraj noted that their work with the Council has matured from research to full-scale deploymentāan important shift for any tech provider hoping to prove its solutions arenāt just theoretical.
QuantumGateās tools will play a big role here, including the Crypto Discovery Tool, which maps out cryptographic assets across large systems, and QSphere, a quantumāresilient VPN and data protection suite. Theyāre also bringing in Salina and Secure VMI, extending the partnership beyond quantum readiness into broader cybersecurity needs. Itās a lot of moving parts, but it all ties back to one thing: resilience.
As someone who often meets founders trying to secure their first contracts, Iāve seen how national-level initiatives like this can boost confidence. When a country makes security a priority, its startups feel emboldened to innovate. And if thereās one thing the MENA region doesnāt lack, itās ambitionāsometimes almost too much, if Iām honest. But that ambition is what keeps the ecosystem buzzing, even if things get a bit messy along the way. Or a bit mesy, in my case.
For now, the collaboration reinforces the UAEās position as a regional leader in postāquantum cybersecurity. Whether other nations will follow at the same pace is anyoneās guess, but the UAE isnāt waiting around to find out.
